Myofunctional Therapy at JG Myology

Supporting healthy breathing, sleep, and growth for children and adults.

Myofunctional Therapy (MFT) retrains the tongue, lips, and facial muscles to support proper breathing, swallowing, and healthy oral posture. Because these systems work together, MFT benefits overall health—not just sleep apnea.

Combined therapy approach

Our Approach

JG Myology works closely with dentists, ENTs, orthodontists, and other airway-focused providers. A multidisciplinary approach gives patients the best support for the airway, sleep, and full-body function.

SIMPLE TAKEAWAYS

  • MFT helps improve breathing, sleep, swallowing, and facial growth.

  • It’s beneficial for kids and adults, even without a sleep apnea diagnosis.

  • Short daily practice creates long-term change.

  • A team-based approach leads to the best outcomes.

Frequently asked questions

At JG Myology, therapy is structured to be effective, flexible, and easy to fit into your routine:

  • Sessions: 30–40 minutes, scheduled every 2 weeks

  • Program Length: Typically 10–12 visits over 6–8 months

  • Home Practice: Just 5 minutes, twice daily

  • Most Important Factor: Consistency — regular practice creates lasting change

  • Format: Sessions are available in-person, virtually, or a mix of both for convenience

This structure allows steady progress while accommodating different schedules and needs.

Common signs that MFT may help include:

  • Mouthbreathing
  • Snoring or noisy breathing
  • Low tongue posture or tongue thrust
  • Open-mouth posture/difficulty closing lips
  • Swallowing concerns
  • Narrow palate or crowded teeth
  • Poor facial growth or setback jaw
  • Recurrent ear infections
  • Clenching, grinding, headaches, TMJ tension
  • Neck/shoulder tightness
  • Brain fog or inattentiveness
  • Anxiety or low mood linked to poor sleep
  • Daytime fatigue
  • Restless sleep
  • Bedwetting past age 5
  • Frequent airway or strep infections
  • Dry mouth on waking

These issues are connected—when breathing and oral posture are off, the whole body can be affected.

When the tongue sits low, the mouth stays open, or facial muscles aren’t working correctly, it can impact:

  • Breathing and sleep
  • Facial and jaw development
  • Dental alignment
  • Swallowing
  • Focus, mood, and energy
  • Head, neck, and TMJ comfort

MFT helps restore healthier patterns that support the airway day and night.

The cost for a comprehensive myofunctional evaluation is $149. This includes:

  • A 60–90 minute in-depth assessment
  • A phone questionnaire beforehand to understand concerns and history
  • The option to complete your evaluation in person or through telehealth for convenience

Our myofunctional therapy sessions are priced at $125 per session.

You can choose the option that works best for you:

  • Pay per session — flexible and convenient
  • Package of 12 sessions (average for completing therapy)— receive a 10% discount when booked together

We aim to make therapy accessible while providing high-quality, individualized care.

Myofunctional therapy is not often covered by insurance, as many plans still consider it an “out-of-network” service. Many families use HSA/FSA funds, and we can provide a detailed receipt that you may submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.
